19 Poker Face

This week I watched the TV series Poker Face as part of my research for something I plan to write.

Poker Face is glorious! The main character is wonderful. I like everything about it…almost. Well, I get into what gave me trouble as part of the discussion here. But ultimately it’s a real winner.

I’m still thinking about story engine, beautiful losers, and being on the road. This has all of those. I might have to watch it all over again. There are only ten episodes. If I had to pick one to love, it would be “Escape from Shit Mountain,” though I admit I fast forwarded through the extended “being bored in lockdown” sequence at the beginning the second time I watched it.

I’m also very interested in when and why shows do something that is NOT for the viewer but is in service of something else entirely. I know we’re not everything. But we’re kind of everything in a certain way. I mean, without us, there’s an issue.

This is the first new to me show I’ve seen in a while. I tried watching The Falcon and the Winter Soldier earlier this year but didn’t stick with it. I watched Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and Andor. I need to watch Foundation and Fallout. Having one streaming service at a time means there’s an artificial limitation on what I see.

This was excellent. I really enjoyed it. Looks like season two is coming in 2025. Woohoo!
