9 Leverage, Competence, Commentaries

Oh, I love competence so much! Competence, enthusiasm, and kindness, those are three of my favorite traits in a human being. Be those things, people of the world. Competent, enthusiastic, and kind.

This one is about the brilliant television show Leverage. Don’t worry, I’ll talk about high art/low art nonsense at some point soon. It’s a stupid distinction that needs to go in the garbage can of history. Yes, I can teach The Iliad and Milton and Chaucer and Shakespeare and Austen and the modern greats and all the classics and also adore children’s books and romance and cable tv shows that deserve to live forever because they’re so good. So good!

That’s the short version. I could go on.

Here’s a link to the scene from The Big Bang Job that I reference in the episode: https://youtu.be/JdA2cdyGXb0?si=xhegxndOxCkYOXI2

On Story on the Brain you can find a list of my favorite episodes. But a real list would be the whole run of the series. Also eight episodes tied for first place on my list. This show makes me HAPPY. Talk about your sacred cheese of life. This is what it’s all about. Justice for the downtrodden! Comeuppance for the exploitative assholes of the world! Extreme competence in the service of making things right! Such happiness. Buy the DVDs. You won’t regret it.

The commentaries are another whole level of happiness that I struggle to articulate, but I gave it a shot here.

I have to go watch some of my favorite episodes and be filled with joy now, while I reupholster a chair in ludicrous fabric that is nevertheless the softest, most comfortable, fleeciest, prettiest fabric around. It just looks completely insane. WHO CARES. That’s the sacred cheese of life way, seriously. Follow your bliss.

Sacred cheese of life!
